The sprue picker, a simple pick-and-place robotic device was intended as a low cost method
of sprue removal or part and runner separation in the injection molding process. In most cases
the low cost of these sprue pickers is maintained by employing a pneumatic motion system as
the basis for their design. However, this design configuration provides a low cost robot at
the expense of system durability, accuracy, speed and functionality. These desirable and
needed features, inherent to the servo driven motion systems, seem unattainable in the present
environment of cost conscious sprue picker applications.
Dynaservo Inc. developed a new servo driven motion control system dedicated for the sprue
picker applications. The philosophy behind this unique design is to simplify and centralize
overall system control, thus removing PLC from the system control structure. The elimination
of PLC significantly reduced sprue picker's manufacturing and programming costs. The integrated
design of Dynaservo motion system offers exceptional functionality and additional cost
efficiencies.
Dynaservo sprue picker motion control system incorporates versatile handheld operator terminal,
Smart Drive integrated controller and compact and efficient servomotor. The system utilizes the
powerful capabilities of the DMC-1X Smart Drive to provide exceptional accuracy, repeatability
and speed consistency. The Smart Drive ensures fully digital, overall servo system control for
precise positioning and fast removal cycles.
